What happens to YOUR PLAN when LIFE HAPPENS?

In Life and in Leadership, perfection lies in the imperfection.  We can work diligently towards the idea of perfection and yet it’s a moving target. LIFE HAPPENS, and our best-laid plans must remain flexible to succeed. If they are not flexible they will bend and eventually break under the pressure and weight of LIFE’s PLAN.  When our plan is too rigid it simply can’t sync up with life’s plan, and when we expect it to, we are slipping into dangerous territory.  Do we actually believe we are all knowing?  Talk about unrealistic!  A great moment in my life was when I finally realized I knew nothing, it opened me to learn a lot more.  I also realized that in admitting that I knew nothing, I finally knew something!

In some ways, I was simply surrendering to life’s plan for me, which by the way was far superior to my plan.  Simply put, we have to expect errors and plan for imperfection, while striving for our best.  We don’t want to measure our progress against unrealistic expectations, because it often leads to disappointment.  If we build this concept of imperfection into our plan, then we can always embrace any obstacle that pops up.  Then we can easily readjust and still end up reaching our ultimate goal.  I constantly have to remind myself that it will always be perfectly imperfect, that’s just the way life is.  So I embrace the adventure and get excited about the mystery of life.  Then I can enjoy the ride even if it gets a bit bumpy.
